Workshop Nov 10th Saturday morning in the New Beehive lounge 1030 to 1200

Political Songwriting with Karl Dallas. Limited space, first come first served.

The workshop will be in two sections.

1. A history of political songwriting. Is there such a thing as a non-political song? Did the peasants really sing the Cutty Wren in 1381? Why the Royal Navy never liked sea shanties. Folklore, fakelore, and poplore.

2. How to compose a political song. Chants, lyrics, and ballads. On the march and after. Attendees will create practical examples, based on issues of the day. Please bring examples of anything you've written, musical instruments - and, of course, your voices.

Karl Dallas has been writing political songs for over 50 years. His most famous song is The Family of Man, which was recorded by the Liverpool Spinners. Other songs of his have been recorded by Ewan MacColl, June Tabor, and the Dransfields. He has sung on demo's in Britain, Palestine, and Iraq

Cost: free entry, donations requested, collections taken.
